This web site is dedicated to the Ottawa County, Michigan,  Radio Rangers 4H club located in Robinson Township in the city of Grand Haven.
Our focus is ongoing training and mentoring of club members in the field of general electronics and the skills to work safely with harmless low voltage projects as well as training in Amateur Radio and the many exciting facets of communication available today.  Members can design and build their own antennas, radios and various electronic projects of interest, under the guidance and supervision of a licensed senior electrical engineer.

Amateur radio is a clean safe hobby teaching young people good communication skills with proper language on the air and respect for others always.

Amateur Radio communication and licensing is our primary focus and everyone gets a chance at the microphone every meeting. Members are encouraged to explore the many facets of radio communication available to licensed Amateurs.

Some examples include:

Satellite Communication, We have basically 26 Satellites licensed Ham's can communicate through as well as The International Space Station

Moon Bounce, We can bounce radio signals off from the moon back to earth and talk to other ham's on the other side of the earth where direct radio communication is difficult even with skip.

Meteor Scatter, Similar to moon bounce except using the ionization of the atmosphere from our frequent meteor storms to echo radio waves

Slow Scan Television (SSTV ), Fast scan TV, WEFAX (weather fax pictures)

Packet Radio, Computer communication similar to the internet only with Ham radio operators only.

HF with USB, LSB (upper or lower single sideband voice), CW (Morse code), RTTY (computer keyboard chat), PSk31 (similar to RTTY only faster and more noise immune), HF (high frequency) is great for Long range ( International ) communications as well as satellite.

VHF, UHF & SHF FM voice and CW, usually mobile radios, hand held or vehicle mounted, also remote control and satellite.

Microwave,  all modes and all license classes allowed on: 24.0-24.25 GHz, 47.0-47.2 GHz, 75.5-81.0 GHz, 119.98-120.02 GHz 142.0-149.0 GHz, 241.0-250.0 GHz, and above 300 GHz.

The 4H pledge

I pledge
my head to clearer thinking
my heart to greater loyalty
my hands to larger service
my health to better living
for my club, my community,
my country, and my world

The Radio Amateurs code

CONSIDERATE--- never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.

LOYAL--- offers loyalty, encouragement and support to other amateur, local clubs, and the American Radio Relay League, through which Amateur Radio in the United States is represented nationally and internationally.

PROGRESSIVE--- with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient station and operation above reproach.

FRIENDLY--- slow and patient operating when requested, friendly advice and counsel to the beginner, kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interests of others. These are the hallmarks of the amateur spirit.

BALANCED--- radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school, or community.

PATRIOTIC--- station and skill always ready for service to country and community.
